Another Successful Ferguson Exteriors Tournament in Parksville

The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club was host to to the  highly anticipated Ferguson Men’s and Women’s Triples Tournament July 25th and 26th.  Cloudy and sometimes threatening  skies, especially on the Saturday,  didn’t dampen the excitement and skill on the green.  Ten women’s  teams and fourteen men’s teams  from around the zone took part in the tournament.

The men played in a winner plays winner format with the team of George Opacic, Willie Dunlop and Ray Chenier  of Qualicum  taking top prize.  There were four second place teams; that of Dean Penny, Henri Saucier and Vern Greenhill of Courtenay.  Next was Martin Fereday, Bob Allaby and Peter Scott of Parksville. Next up was another Parksville team – Bill Burgess, Bob Ashton an Brian Bennett.  Rounding out second place was the Qualicum team of John Eyer, Brian Michel and Erik Ewen.

The women played a different format with first, second and third place finishers.  Coming in first with 10 points, 38 shots and  differential of 29 was the Parksville team of Kate Wilson (skip), Luise Norman (third) and Carol Bucyk (lead).  Second went to the Nanaimo team of Glenda Chalmers, Barb Korabek and Terry Cowie (9-32-15) and rounding out third another Parksville team.  Diane Cruickshank, Kathleen Motley and Fay St. Marie came in at 9-30 16).

A very big thank you goes out to the games committee for their hard work, the kitchen crew who had a lovely menu both days, Save-On Foods for their desserts, bartenders, Markey and Bros, grounds crew, umpires (Colleen and Athol), Chuck for the photos,  spectators, players and of course, Chris Mitchell of Ferguson Exteriors whose company has kindly sponsored this premier event again this year.   Carol Bucyk
