Player Development
How Can We Help You?
The coaches (Meet them here ⇒ Our Coaches) of the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club are pleased to offer the following player development programs.
Introduction to Lawn Bowling:
If you are interested in learning what lawn bowling is all about we offer an introductory free lesson taking approximately 1/2 hour. During this time you will be able to deliver a few bowls and have the game explained. If you have some physical limitations we also have UBI launchers, a kind of pusher that enables those who don’t have the ability to deliver the bowl from a standing position. You can follow click Ubi_Launcher Delivery Aid to see a video of a bowler using this device.
New Bowler Program:
If you have decided that lawn bowling is for you, we offer four 2 hour lessons. These lessons will teach you the basics of lawn bowling: delivery, aim, weight control and jack placement. We will also introduce you to the etiquette and basic rules of the games. By the end of your four lessons you will be ready to participate in all club bowling events.
If you join the club after completing the new bowler program, we will credit your fee towards your membership.
On-Going Player Development:
We offer assistance to all levels of bowlers, so if there is an aspect of your game you feel needs improvement or you would like to learn a new skill please feel free to contact any of our club coaches.
If there is some aspect of your game that you feel needs some improvement please feel free to contact anyone of our coaches or fill in the form below.
Exercise Tips for Senior Players
The link below will take you to a program which outlines a comprehensive series of fitness exercises developed for Senior Lawn Bowlers in Australia. We would encourage you to look at these exercises and consider using some or all of them to help ease some of the strain and discomfort experienced by many of us while bowling.
If you have not been following an exercise regime, we advise caution. Start slowly with a few exercises and a few repetitions and build up your program as you maintain your comfort level.
Over time these exercises can help “oil and lubricate” your joints and muscles and help you better enjoy there bowling experience.
