Markey Pellow delivers the first bowl of the season

The lawn bowling season  for our Parksville club started off with Markey Pellow rolling the honourary first bowl  of the 2024 outdoor season.  We  had a full slate of 64 people playing fours for the event and experienced four seasons in just under two hours of 12 end play.  It was the typical “wait five minutes and the weather will change” type of situation, but it didn’t seem to matter.  Members were just happy to be outside and enjoying the beautiful greens.  Once again, thanks to the grounds crew who does such an amazing job in making our greens both so beautiful and playable.

Congratulations and best wishes to our novices who either came out and watched or got on the green to play.  We’re so glad that you are a part of our lawn bowling club family.  Happy Bowling!

Closure of the Kitchen

Please be advised that effective today, the kitchen is closed (except for the dishwasher for the use of the bar). We are currently seeking a Social Director to take over the running of our kitchen. At the SAGM the Board will be looking for a volunteer to step up as Social Director. The Board and Club Members would like to thank Vicki and Mick for all their contributions to our Club.

Short Mat End of Season Tournament

The Annual Short Mat Tournament was held on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March.

There were eight mixed triples teams entered, made into two groups, playing three games over the two days.

The winners of each group played in a very close final on Sunday afternoon.

The winning team was: Dana Atchison (Skip), Dianne Proctor (3rd) and Lynn Hutchinson (Lead).

The runner up was: Marg Wood (Skip), Diana Olenick (3rd), Martin Perrin (Lead)

It was a fun couple of days which brought out the best in all the bowlers.

To finish off the day and the end of the Short Mat season we held a Pizza Party for all the Short Matters.

Details on the Secret Santa gift exchange:

If you wish to participate in the gift exchange please bring a wrapped gift and place it on the gift table along with your name tag from the draw room. If you are a social member and don’t have a tag one will be made up for you at the gift table.  At some point during the day a name from the gift bag will be called and that person will pick a gift from under the tree and unwrap it. After the first gift has been unwrapped the next person can take either an unwrapped gift or choose a gift from under the tree. If your unwrapped gift is taken from you you will get to choose another one from under the tree and unwrap it. Unwrapped gifts cannot be hidden away.  A huge penalty may be inflicted, such as if we sing 12 days of Christmas you will get to perform solo 5 golden rings. Gifts can be appropriate for any sex.
